Over the past couple of years, the book publishing industry has been thrown into a state of dynamic change with the rapid growth of technology and global communication in our world. Combine that with a volatile economy and alarming climate change, and who knows what is over the next horizon for this traditionally low-tech but resource-intensive field. PubWest is here to help you plan for those unknowns.
The annual Huenefeld-PubWest Survey of Financial Operations is a confidential, comprehensive examination of financial data, production output, and salary statistics from publishers of all sizes and disciplines nationwide. It is a tool with which you can keep a finger on the pulse of publishing. For a FREE copy of the results, all you have to do is participate in the survey!
This year, we’re utilizing a web-based survey process for the first time. Please follow the link below to see the survey in its entirety with instructions for completion. The survey will be open until August 14, 2009, for participation, at which time we will close access and start tabulating results.

***Please note: there are two choices of survey forms depending on your house's level of net sales. Question #6 will direct you to the correct form. If you make over $250,000 in net sales, please continue on to question #7. If you make under $250,000 in net sales, you will be directed to begin at question #96 (page 6 of the survey online, or page 19 of the pdf copy).***

PubWest guarantees the confidentiality of survey data. To protect your information further, please do not include the name of your publishing house or subsidiaries anywhere within the survey itself. Our third-party survey service will check the survey for completeness and tabulate your responses. The committee will take the tabulated data and write the report that will be sent to you electronically. At the end of the survey, you will find a link to an e-mail address. Please send an independent e-mail using that address with the name and address (e-mail or post) of the individual who is to receive the survey results.
Before starting, please prepare by gathering all your financial, inventory, and salary reports from calendar or fiscal year 2008. If there are questions that you can’t answer precisely, all we ask is that if you estimate a number or percentage, be conscientious about your educated guess. We want to ensure the most accurate information for tabulation. Please take the time to make sure your data is complete and consistent.
